Technology
t4cd focuses primarily on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), believing that they have much to offer in the conservation and sustainable development arena - particularly in terms of data collection and analysis, information sharing and efficient communication. The t4cd website hosts a rich database of information about such technologies within the ICT Resource - the main ICT groups included are:
- data management and information sharing tools
- mobile communications
- wildlife tracking devices
We also feature information on power supply solutions for remote/ off-grid situations. This reflects the fact that many ICTs rely on electricity to function and that securing a reliable electricity supply in remote locations can present a serious challenge.
In this section we provide you with background material on the technologies covered in the ICT Resource.
In Understanding Technology, you'll find a whole host of pages providing you with background information on some of the technologies that are frequently mentioned: Mobiles, Phones, Internet, GPS, Satellite, Radio Tracking, VHF, GIS, Other Wildlife Tracking Systems, Data Collection, Power and more.
In Technology of the Month, we profile a technology from the ICT resource each month, taking you further in depth with how the technology works and its application to conservation and/or development.
And finally, if you or your company knows of a technology that could be used to advantage in conservation and/or development projects and you would like to see publicised on the ICT resource, then Submit Technology is the place to do it. Here you'll find a downloadable word form requesting all the relevant details, and a contact address to send it back to.
