The course Principles of Remote Sensing introduces the participant to the basic concepts and the operational skills necessary to acquire the most appropriate RS data and extract geo-information from them. The course is useful for both the novice to remote sensing and the one experienced in some aspects but missing the complete overview of the state-of-the art and/or the conceptual foundation. The course covers the remote sensing topics taught at ITC during the core module phase of all degree courses. These are: * Sample applications of RS * Electromagnetic energy and remote sensing * Sensor platforms and RS data acquisition systems * Aerial cameras and photography * Multispectral, hyperspectral and thermal sensors * Active sensors * Radiometric aspects of remote sensing data * Geometric aspects of remote sensing data * Image enhancement and visualization * Image interpretation and classification Applicants must be proficient in reading and writing in English language.Since the computer is used for both the practical exercises and the communication via the internet you are expected to have good basic computer skills and can easily familiarize yourself with our e-learning environment (Blackboard) and the software, which you will use for image processing.
