The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners brings together government agencies, universities, non-profit organizations, and businesses in an effort to make Earth Science information available to a broader community. The objective of the Federation is to evolve methods that make Earth science data easy to preserve, locate, access and use for all beneficial applications. The scientific information must be of high quality, easily accessible and low in cost. The Federation maintains a comprehensive inventory of information about its data holdings (currently 3,500 data sets) and services. The Federation was established to make these things a reality by: • Encouraging and establishing the use of best science practices in the production of high quality data, information, products and services • Ensuring that data and information is readily accessible and easily exchanged leading to new types of integrated Earth Science data products • Contributing to the development of an Earth science information economy through the comprehensive consideration of applications, research and commerce. • Increasing the diversity and breadth of users and uses of Earth science data, information, products and services
