Website no longer being updated – shortage of funds.  Internet access important for training teachers for emergency schools – will be an environmental component of the curriculum. Wildlife monitoring using IP Camera & GPS.
Project Results:
Land-use planning – hope that it will be adopted by local Government, with regulation that confers protection onto parts of the forest.
Community awareness – engagement with environmental issues – mainstreaming biodiversity issue into development process
Website – Information exchange to provide local Government with up-to-date information about post-Tsunami.  No mobile phones / landline / radio.  VSAT provided by Indosat – ongoing operation from UNDP
Wildlife monitoring – understand more about wildlife distribution, diversity & behaviour.  Most important species – Asian elephant & Sumatran tiger.
Future Steps:
GPS Collars with GSM download for Asian elephants
Implement IP Camera in forest
Other interventions on-going + re-initiate community internet & information Hub
Technology Lessons Learned:
Expensive.  Internet access in remote areas.
Problems with power supply for GPS, for longer periods of research – currently only last 3 or 4 days.  Video camera battery too expensive.
