This project aims to guarantee the long-term conservation of Los Volcanes National Park in El Salvador, through the development and application of policies, strategies, plans, actions, and strengthening of local capacities that would support sustainable development of the zone in harmony with the natural environment. The specific aims are to: 1)Conserve the environmental services provided by the Los Volcanes Complex, such as water and oxygen, carbon fixation, climate regulation, germplasm bank, scenic beauty, and others; 2)Provide and foster options for study, scientific research, environmental education and interpretation, as well as opportunities for outreach and tourism; 3) Encourage participation from local populations, private landowners, municipalities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other sectors of the society in the Complex’s conservation and 4) Promote environmentally sustainable ways of life and livelihoods in the Complex’s buffer zones.
