Grant Details:
The NRF supports and promotes research through funding, human resources development and provision of research facilities. It has nine focus areas, including 'Research and Innovation Support and Advancement' and 'Conservation and Management of Ecosystems and Biodiversity'. Aims of the ICT focus inlcude: to generate, design and apply new information and communication technologies in an innovative way, to form appropiate partnerships to strengthen ICT capability through research capacity building, and to raise the status and understanding of ICT and the use and management of information in all sectors. Any institution applying for a NRF grant must be NRF recognised (through introduction) and be an institution that conducts research of a pre-competetive nature, for the benefit of the long term knowledge base, within the declared NRF focus areas and containing a research component leading to masters degrees and doctorates.
