t4cd Hub
In January 2006 t4cd hosted a conference entitled "Conservation & Appropriate Technology", which united stakeholders from the technology, conservation and development communities. The aim was to drive forward the debate on the application of technologies (particularly ICTs) in conservation and development work, particularly in developing countries.
A major outcome of this event was a clear consensus from the 100 delegates that there was demand for a centralised source of information on available technologies, which would also share lessons learned from previous applications of such technologies in the conservation / development context. Such a resource would also provide guidance on funding, sources of expertise and opportunities for technology skills development.
t4cd took up the challenge, and has since been working to build such a resource - the main product being this website. The ICT Resource is a vast database of technologies, projects, sources of funding and project support, and training courses. The site has been devloped to enable visitors to submit new information to the site (see "Submit Project" / "Submit Technology") and t4cd pledges to maintain the content of the site and promote visitor interaction via discussion fora, blogs and a database of technology experts.
