Technologies for Conservation Training Course
t4cd has developed an innovative new training course in Technologies for Conservation. Launched at the Southern Africa Wildlife College (SAWC) South Africa, in March 2007, the purpose of the t4cd training course is to equip conservation workers with an understanding of the role ICTs can play in facilitating activities in their area of work.
As ICTs become an increasingly important aspect of all parts of life, it is essential that those tasked with making conservation decisions appreciate how technology can be used as an enabler of the process, and how best to take advantage of these opportunities. The t4cd Technologies for Conservation Course exposes students to a wide range of technology types, case studies of best practice, and guidance for implementation.
t4cd is keen to make the teaching materials from the course as widely available as possible within the conservation community. As such, the team is delighted to host the training manuals for the 4 sub-sections of the t4cd Technologies for Conservation Course on this site. Please feel free to make use of these materials - all we ask is that you reference the source (t4cd, 2007).
The manuals cover three ICT topics, as well as addressing the crucial issue of power supply in remote locations - an essential pre-requisite for running or re-charging electrical devices. Each manual was developed by a specialist in the relevant field.
Following the success of the course in March, the SAWC is now keen to integrate the t4cd Technology for Conservation Course as a permanent unit within its Natural Resource Management Diploma We hope that you find these training materials useful and please do send comments / suggestions to t4cd@fauna-flora.org
