HumaniNet Tech Day in Nepal

Tech Day will be of benefit to executives and program managers in relief organizations, as well as those who implement information and communications technologies (ICTs) in these organizations. Managers and employees of NGOs and government and UN agencies are invited to apply for registration.

Attendees will hear presentations and see demos of technologies that support humanitarian relief work. The host partners will also lead roundtable discussions on several important topics, including the use of GIS and digital mapping tools, information management in relief scenarios, and how to integrate technology into relief training.

The agenda will cover:

  • Field mobile satellite communications
  • Use of GPS by relief teams
  • Developments in GIS (geographic information systems) and digital mapping
  • Information management tools for disaster response
  • Technology preparedness
  • Other topics also being considered

Tech Day is the opening event in a week-long simulation exercise that will be conducted by ADRA Asia and Caritas in Kathmandu. It will be held at the Hotel Himalaya from 9:00 to 4:30. There will be a nominal fee of USD 10 for lunch and refreshments. Team training will be held on August 23-24, and a field exercise is planned for August 26-28.
